HOW TO REMOVE TICKS FROM YOUR CAT

For an existing tick infestation, visible ticks should be removed as soon as possible with purpose-designed removal tools.

What to do if the tick has already bitten my cat?

Use a tick removal tool, like tweezers or a tick fork, to remove the tick. Grab the tick adjacent to your pet’s skin (at the tick mouthparts), twist the tick, then pluck the tick away from the skin. Take care not to squeeze the tick’s body. Removed ticks may still be alive, so be sure they don’t escape to find another host to feed on!

It is possible for a cat to develop signs of tick-borne diseases even after a tick has been removed, so it is recommended to keep a close eye on your cat. If you have any concerns about your cat’s health you should seek veterinary attention.

How to prevent your cat from coming in contact with ticks

Unfortunately, if your cat likes to spend time outdoors, there’s no way to prevent contact with ticks. But you can help protect against ticks by checking your cat daily and using a proven tick treatment like NexGard® COMBO. Just one monthly dose provides effective control of pre-existing paralysis ticks within 24 hours and provides protection for a full month against ticks.
