Types of mites that affect dogs

There are three different types of mites that affect dogs: Demodex Mites, Sarcoptes Mites and Ear Mites.

Demodex Mites

Can cause disease if the immune system is unable to control the mite population (e.g. young or malnourished dogs).

Sarcoptes Mites

Can also be transmitted from dogs to humans, causing a disease known as scabies.

Ear Mites

Can result in a secondary bacterial or yeast infection in the dog’s ears.
