  • What is NexGard®?

  • What is NexGard SPECTRA®?

    NexGard SPECTRA® is a once monthly highly palatable beef-flavoured chew that provides the most complete protection against fleas, ticks, mites, heartworm disease, lungworm disease and intestinal worms (roundworms, hookworms and whipworms) in a single chew.   • How does NexGard® differ from NexGard SPECTRA®?

    There are two types of chew in the NexGard family - NexGard® and NexGard SPECTRA®.  Both contain the active ingredient afoxolaner, providing excellent protection against fleas, ticks and mites.  NexGard SPECTRA® contains an additional active ingredient, milbemycin oxime, which provides protection against heartworm disease, lungworm disease and intestinal worms. With two active ingredients, NexGard SPECTRA® provides the most complete protection against fleas, ticks, mites, heartworm disease, lungworm disease and intestinal worms in just one tasty chew.

  • How long does it take NexGard® and NexGard SPECTRA® to kill fleas?

    NexGard® and NexGard SPECTRA® will kill fleas already present on your dog within 8 hours of initial administration. 

  • How long does NexGard® and NexGard SPECTRA® protect my dog from fleas and ticks?

    Both NexGard® and NexGard SPECTRA® chews will protect your dog from fleas and the most problematic tick species infesting dogs for a full month.

  • My dog has flea allergy dermatitis (FAD). Will NexGard® or NexGard SPECTRA® help to control this?

    NexGard® or NexGard SPECTRA® are both ideal choices for dogs with flea allergy dermatitis (FAD) due to their rapid speed of kill and month-long protection against fleas. For dogs with a flea allergy, monthly treatment with NexGard® or NexGard SPECTRA® should continue throughout the year without interruption. To minimize the likelihood of flea re-infestation, it is important to treat all animals within a household with a registered flea control product.

  • Why can I see dead ticks on my dog after using NexGard® or NexGard SPECTRA®?

    NexGard® or NexGard SPECTRA® are highly effective at killing the most problematic tick species infesting dogs in Malaysia - the brown dog tick. A dead tick’s mouthparts may remain anchored in your dog’s skin; however, the dead tick can easily be removed using a tick removal device, tweezers, or your fingers. If you’re confident to remove the dead tick yourself, using your fingers or tweezers, grab the tick adjacent to your pet’s skin (at the tick mouthparts), twist the tick and then pluck the tick away from the skin.

  • Why may I see more fleas on my dog after administering NexGard® or NexGard SPECTRA® Spectra?

    As NexGard® and NexGard SPECTRA® over-stimulate the flea’s nervous system resulting in hyper-excitation, you may see fleas rise to the top of your dog’s coat and appear more visible as they die.

  • How can I help prevent intestinal worms?

    NexGard SPECTRA® protects against fleas, ticks, mites, heartworm disease, lungworm disease and the common intestinal worms (roundworms, hookworms and whipworms). NexGard SPECTRA® has been shown to be 100% effective at preventing flea tapeworm infestation for a full month. For active tapeworm infestations, speak to your veterinarian for detail information.

  • If my dog is already on a heartworm preventative, how do I switch from my current heartworm preventative to NexGard SPECTRA®?

    Your dog’s first dose of NexGard SPECTRA® must be administered on, or before, the next due date of the current heartworm preventative. This will avoid any break in heartworm prevention. If your dog’s heartworm prevention has lapsed, speak to your veterinarian.

  • Can NexGard SPECTRA® be given to heartworm positive dogs?

    The use of NexGard SPECTRA® in heartworm positive dogs has not been evaluated. However, heartworm preventatives such as NexGard SPECTRA® has been incorporated as part of the standard heartworm treatment protocol. For further information, speak to your veterinarian. 

     

     

  • Are nursing puppies protected from heartworm disease if their mother is receiving NexGard SPECTRA®?

    No. Only Individual given heartworm preventatives such as NexGard SPECTRA® is protected against the disease. Please talk to your veterinarian for more information.

  • How do I dose my dog with NexGard ® or NexGard SPECTRA®?

    NexGard® or NexGard SPECTRA® is a beef-flavoured chew that is for oral consumption only. For ease of dosing, NexGard® or NexGard SPECTRA® can be given with or without food. Remove only one chewable at a time from the foil-backed blister card. NexGard® or NexGard SPECTRA® is a highly palatable chew that is readily consumed by dogs when offered as a treat. Alternatively, NexGard® or NexGard SPECTRA® can also be fed to your dog in a small amount of dog food.

  • What age can NexGard® and NexGard SPECTRA® be used from?

    NexGard® or NexGard SPECTRA® can be given to your puppy from just 8 weeks of age, providing they weigh at least 2 kg.

  • Can NexGard® or NexGard SPECTRA® be administered to cats or other pets?

    No. NexGard® and NexGard SPECTRA® chews must only be used for dogs.

  • What if I'm unsure if my dog has taken the entire dose of NexGard® or NexGard SPECTRA®?

    As with all medications, care should be taken to ensure that your dog consumes the complete chew and treated dogs should be observed for a few minutes after administration to ensure that no part of the chew is lost or rejected. If it is suspected that any of the chew has been lost, treat again with another full chew.

  • Can NexGard® or NexGard SPECTRA® be administered to dogs with food allergies?

    NexGard® and NexGard SPECTRA® contain soy proteins. They contain no animal meat protein (including in the beef-flavouring) and are gluten free. Use with caution in dogs with a known hypersensitivity to soy.  Please consult your veterinarian before administering NexGard® or NexGard SPECTRA® if your dog is undergoing a food trial.

  • Can NexGard® or NexGard SPECTRA® chews be split so I can dose more than one dog?

    No. You’ve made the right choice in selecting NexGard® or NexGard SPECTRA® to protect your dog. Don’t risk under-dosing them. In order to ensure your dog receives the correct dose and parasite protection for a full month they must consume the entire chew appropriate for their weight.

  • How do I dose a dog that weighs more than 60 Kg with NexGard SPECTRA®?

    For dogs weighing over 60 kg, administer an appropriate combination of chewables, e.g. for a 75 kg dog, administer one >30 – 60 kg chew together with one >7.5 – 15 kg chew. See product label for full claim details and directions for use.

  • What are my options if my dog is pregnant or lactating?

    The use of NexGard® or NexGard SPECTRA® has not been evaluated in breeding, pregnant or lactating dogs. Consult your veterinarian for advice on suitable treatment options.

  • What if a dog consumes multiple NexGard® or NexGard SPECTRA® chewables?

  • Is NexGard® or NexGard SPECTRA® harmful to humans if accidentally ingested?

    NexGard® and NexGard SPECTRA® may cause gastrointestinal disturbances if ingested by humans. In case of accidental ingestion, particularly in the case of children, seek medical advice immediately and provide the product label to the doctor. 
    To reduce the risk of accidental ingestion, keep out of reach of children, remove only one chewable at a time from the foil-backed blister card and administer to the dog immediately after removal from the packaging. Any suspected human adverse events please Contact Us.

  • What should I do if my dog experiences an unexpected reaction after taking NexGard® or NexGard SPECTRA®?

  • Are NexGard® and NexGard SPECTRA® safe to use for any breed of dog?

    NexGard® and NexGard SPECTRA® have been shown to be safe and effective in various breeds of dogs (including Collie breeds) when used as directed and can be given to puppies from 8 weeks of age, providing they weigh at least 2 kg.  Afoxolaner, the active ingredient in NexGard® and NexGard SPECTRA®, is part of the isoxazoline family of chemicals. Adverse reactions to this family of chemicals are rarely observed but may include vomiting, diarrhoea, lethargy, inappetence (loss of appetite), itching and very rarely, seizures. Most adverse reactions are self-limiting and of short duration. Use with caution in dogs with a history of epilepsy or any other seizure disorder.   • Can I use NexGard® or NexGard SPECTRA® if my dog is on other medications?

    Specific studies investigating the concurrent use of NexGard SPECTRA® with other medications have not been conducted. However, in field studies, both NexGard® and NexGard SPECTRA® were well tolerated by dogs receiving a wide variety of concurrent medications, including anaesthetics, pain-killers, dewormers, antibiotics, cardiac medications, diuretics, anti-inflammatories, sedatives, topical parasiticides and vaccines. There are no specific warnings or contraindications on the product label regarding the use of NexGard® or NexGard SPECTRA® with any other medications. NexGard COMBO for Cats

  • What is NexGard® COMBO?

    NexGard® COMBO is an easy to use, topical spot-on product that provides broad spectrum activity against both external and internal parasites, for cats and kittens starting at 8 weeks of age and weighing 0.8kg or more.

  • What does NexGard® COMBO protect my cat from?

    The presence of 3 complementary active ingredients of esafoxolaner, eprinomectin and praziquantel offers the broadest protection against both external and internal parasites including fleas, flea eggs, ticks, heartworms, hookworms, roundworms, lungworms, vesical worms and tapeworms.

  • Do I have to treat my cat monthly with NexGard® COMBO?

    Because of existing flea immature life stages in the home environment, it may take several months to gain complete control once treatment is initiated. It is recommended to treat cats monthly to break the life cycle of fleas. Monthly treatment is recommended for the prevention of other parasites.

  • Do fleas and ticks have to bite my cat for NexGard® COMBO to work?

    NexGard® COMBO is not a product acting through skin contact; after topical application, esafoxolaner, the active used to fight against fleas and ticks is absorbed across the skin into bloodstream. Ticks and fleas will be killed when they start feeding on the host as they will be exposed to esafoxolaner in the blood.

  • How long does it take NexGard® COMBO to kill fleas or ticks?

    Nexgard® COMBO will kill fleas within 24 hours of initial administration and within 48 hours against ticks upon initial administration.

  • How do I apply NexGard® COMBO?

    To apply NexGard® COMBO pull back the plunger slightly, remove the cap, place the tip of the applicator on the skin. Apply the contents directly on the skin in one spot on the midline of the neck between the base of the skull and the shoulder blades. Refer to the label insert before use.

  • Can I split one applicator of NexGard® COMBO to treat two cats?

    No. For accurate treatment, the correct dose should be applied as one full applicator.

  • Should I give my cat a worm pill at the same time as NexGard® COMBO?

    No. NexGard® COMBO is effective against roundworms, hookworms and tapeworms and therefore co-administration of an oral worm pill is not needed.

  • What will happen if my cat licks NexGard® COMBO?

    If licking occurs shortly after application a brief period of hyper-salivation may occur due to the bitter taste of the excipients in the product. The signs should resolve quickly, without the need of any treatment. If you have any concerns, please speak to your veterinarian.

  • Is NexGard® COMBO safe to use on any breed of cat?

  • Can I use NexGard® COMBO in pregnant and lactating cat?

  • Can I use NexGard® COMBO on my dog?

    NexGard® COMBO has not been tested in dogs and is therefore not recommended in dogs.

  • Can my kids play or sleep with a NexGard® COMBO treated cat?

    NexGard® COMBO is applied topically, and the 3 active ingredients are absorbed through the skin, then passing into the blood stream. They don’t remain on the skin contrarily to topical product acting by contact with parasites. It is recommended to avoid contact until the treated area site is no longer noticeable (i.e., 24 hours), meaning that the active ingredients have been completely absorbed.
